Save money and upgrade your old fluorescent signs to bright LED's

As of September 2021, Halogen bulbs will be banned, soon followed by fluorescent bulbs. Not only will this dramatically cut emissions, but LED’s will also save consumers massive amounts on their energy bills. This shift to LED bulbs will cut 1.26 million tonnes of CO2 emissions each year, which is the equivalent of removing over half a million cars from UK roads.  

These plans also include a ban from September on the sale of lighting fixtures with fixed bulbs that can’t be replaced – meaning the fixtures will have to be thrown away. Fixtures such as these account for 100,000 tonnes of electrical waste every year – out of a total 1.5 million tonnes of electrical waste each year.

There are an awful lot of illuminated signs out there that are looking scruffy, dirty, half lit and costing their owners a small fortune in wasted power and loss of reputation. The situation usually comes about because the signs are fitted with old technology fluorescent lighting and gear that required consistent and periodic maintenance to keep them looking bright. Typically, this would mean new tubes each year, generally done by suitably qualified sign fitters or electricians, plus all the scaffolding and access gear required. Its easy to see why this work (and expense) could be easily shelved.
